EdTrust-Midwest works for the high academic achievement of all Michigan students in pre-kindergarten through college. Their goal is to close the gaps in opportunity and achievement that disproportionately impact students of color, multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and children from low-income backgrounds. As a nonpartisan, data-driven education policy, research, and advocacy organization, they are focused first and foremost on doing what is right for Michigan children, working alongside partners to raise the quality of teaching and learning in Michigan public schools.

EdTrust-Midwest launched the Building the Hope Schools award program to recognize high-poverty public schools that consistently achieve strong academic growth, even in the face of significant challenges. Awarded schools demonstrate exceptional progress for traditionally underserved students while fostering affirming, inclusive learning environments.
Each Building the Hope school sets a high standard of excellence, employing culturally and linguistically responsive practices—both school-wide and in the classroom—that help drive remarkable student achievement, making them true outliers in Michigan.
Bright Matter designed and developed the program’s website, using a visual language that communicates growth, success, and recognition. The site serves as a central hub where visitors can explore each school's unique accomplishments through infographics, testimonials, data, and photography—offering a holistic view of their impact. Bright Matter also produced print collateral to support in-person events and celebrations.
In 2024, EdTrust-Midwest celebrated ten years of impact across the state of Michigan. Bright Matter designed and developed the mini-site with a corresponding report to celebrate the accomplishment.
