The Education Trust Tennessee

The Education Trust Tennessee seeks to influence policy in the state by engaging and equipping key education stakeholders, including policymakers, thought leaders, practitioners, community groups, civic organizations, parents, and students. Their goal is to drive a state conversation about how the public education system can better serve students of color and students from low-income backgrounds, pre-k through college. Bright Matter has partnered with Ed Trust Tennessee to provide a variety of assets, including website design and development, logo design, campaign collateral, and social campaigns. Bright Matter has helped the Tennessee branch stand out both in their local community and to potential donors for the cause.
“Bright Matter has an outstanding ability to take reams of complex material and transform it into beautiful, coherent, easy-to-digest design and content. Every piece is thoughtful and gorgeous. Most of all, the work is impactful, adding so much value to our initiatives. I could not imagine our campaigns without the important contributions of Bright Matter.”

Tennessee Coalition for Truth in Classrooms

Bright Matter was tasked with designing a logo and with designing and developing the landing page for the new Ed Trust Tennessee coalition, Tennessee Coalition for Truth in Classrooms. The coalition was created in response to concerning new Tennessee legislation in the passage of Public Chapter 493 in 2021. The coalition is a group of students, education advocates and community organization leaders who believe in promoting the teaching of truthful history in schools, and honoring and valuing the diversity of Tennessee students, staff and institutions.

Finding a guardian

While developing the logo for the TN Coalition for Truth in Classrooms, Bright Matter considered a variety of symbols for knowledge before settling on the owl. The owl was chosen as a commonly-known representation of knowledge, but also for its connection to Athena, the Greek goddess of Knowledge. The coalition’s owl is observant and watchful, with both feet firmly planted on the knowledge it holds dear.

EmpowerED

EmpowerED began with a simple question: what if students began to see themselves as superheroes who were already equipped with all of the strength and power they need to fix the problems they see in their schools and communities? What if we harnessed that collective power and equipped them with a few tools to be agents of change in their schools and communities? The concept is simple, the impact has the potential to be huge.

Ed Trust Tennessee reached out to Bright Matter to help create superheroes for each of their student League Leaders. Since 2020, EmpowerED is going strong, with more students, more heroes, and more stories to tell.
